He cited the American Medical Association for its statement that. if the insurance is not supplied, doctors have to limit their practice, a result that might be worse than no insurance. He said the hospital district has. sent out a survey of the need for hospitalization, "but we find. that the number of patients requiring hospitalization is more than the number of beds made available," he added. "We need a plan of rehabilitation and patient treatment". To this end he proposed the di rrection of a psychological-social counseling department that would t he work of workers trained by the University. The hospital district admin- istrator said about $10,000 was needed. to put it into operation. "We have no funds yet," he concluded, "But we are in closer touch with our neighbors than we have been before and we are not likely to be far apart in the future," The board will meet again next month to hear members talk about their personal lives and their hopes for i2. On Tuesday, May 30, the hospital district will hear from educators, psychologists and social workers who will tell of their concerns for the welfare of the Chicago area and propose improvements in their area of coverage. This will be the first of what the hospital di rat 1 hopes will become a series of "public hearings" on the future of Illinois hospitals and how it's carried out. Three questions concerning the future of the hospital district will be posed, according to Charles M. Morel, president of the board of managers. They are: What is the hospital district's relationship with the Central Illinois Mental Health Association? What is the hospital district's relationship with the!,*»»»» the Illinois State Psychiatric Institute at GlenOak? and Will this hospital district be politically con- sidered as a separate entity or as a unit of the Central Illinois Mental Health Association?" Those in attendance at the hearings will have the privilege of contribu-. ting their views concerning the hospital district and its future. The hearings will be held at the Illinois State Mental Hospital at GlenOak, near Pontiac. The meetings will be scheduled for the following dates: May 16, and May 30, and June 6.
